Vermont Mutual’s Charitable Giving Helps Communities Prosper

MONTPELIER, Vermont (July 29, 2024)—Vermont Mutual Insurance Group®, based in Montpelier, VT and one of the oldest property and casualty insurers in the United States, recently announced that it has eclipsed the $5 million mark in donations through their Charitable Giving Fund (the “Fund”). Vermont Mutual established the Fund back in 2014 with the expressed mission to enhance the quality of life in communities where the Group conducts business by providing financial support to community organizations.

Speaking on behalf of The Vermont Community Foundation, Dan Smith, the Foundation’s President & CEO, stated “Vermont is at its best when Vermonters are looking out for one another. The Vermont Mutual Charitable Giving Fund’s milestone of surpassing $5 million in grants is a testament to a passionate commitment to the well-being of Vermont communities. Its support, especially during critical times like the recent floods and the COVID-19 pandemic, has been instrumental and unwavering. We deeply value their generosity and dedication and are inspired by the way they stepped up when their neighbors needed it most.”

University of Vermont’s Athletic Director, Jeff Shulman, noted “Vermont Mutual’s unwavering commitment to making a positive impact in our community is truly inspiring. We have experienced their generosity firsthand through the Cats Win, Community Wins’ initiative, a program in which Vermont Mutual donates $100 to local non-profits for every Catamount Win. We’re thrilled to partner with Vermont Mutual in support of their efforts and look forward to winning more games and in turn, raising even more money for deserving non-profits.”

Vermont Foodbank CEO, John Sayles, remarked “The Vermont Foodbank is grateful for the support of partners like Vermont Mutual and the Charitable Giving Program. Every day many neighbors must make choices about whether to pay for medicine or food, rent or food, heat or food. The work we are able to do with the support offered from partners like Vermont Mutual can ease the burden by ensuring that needed food is available in local communities through the Vermont Foodbank and its local partners across Vermont. This support is critical to ensure our neighbors can get the food they want and need to thrive.”

Sarah Young, Vermont Mutual’s Vice President of Human Resources, stated “The 5 million dollar mark represents much more than a number, it means making a real difference in the communities we call home.” Young continued “Vermont Mutual was established in Montpelier, VT, nearly 200 years ago by the leading citizens of Montpelier. Over that time the company itself has become an important part of the community and because of this we feel a responsibility and duty to help our communities prosper.”

Financial assistance notwithstanding, the company doesn’t stop there. Vermont Mutual employees can be found on location assisting community centers and charitable organizations like the Vermont Foodbank and Camp Ta-Kum-Ta. Additionally, every employee gets a paid day off to volunteer at a non-profit or school group of their choice. As well, the company offers a matching donations program to further help employees support a non-profit of their choice.
